Woman Crush Wednesday: Jessica Furniss

spiffy_eats

Today’s #WCW honoree is none other than Spiffy Eats herself, Jessica Furniss.

I met Jessica through her lovely boyfriend, Tony, a few years ago when she moved to Alabama from South Carolina and instantly fell in love with her blonde curls, dimples, and infectious laugh. She’s a ray of sunshine that instantly lights up any room and I haven’t met a person yet that hasn’t fallen in love with her immediately. She’s that girl that everyone wants to be friends with.

Jessica started her blog, Spiffy Eats and Giggle Water, about two years ago and has grown it into so much more than just a blog. She shares valuable information on numerous topics including clean cooking and eating, fitness, restaurant reviews, lifestyle tips, quips and more. I’ve gathered over twenty healthy, delicious recipes from her blog, learned how to make bone broth from her instructional videos, and drooled over her Instagram photos. With her easy to understand content she has motivated me (and several other people) to get healthier with our food selections and get our butts off the couch and MOVING. She had a recipe featured on the feedfeed site a few months ago, was recently on the The Scout Guide Birmingham’s Instagram feed and did her first segment on Talk of Alabama earlier this year making gluten free pies. She also did her first Periscope broadcast from Pepper Place Farmers Market last weekend where she shared some of her favorite farmers with us. I learned so much from her ‘scope at Pepper Place that I’m secretly hoping she starts a weekly series from there highlighting the farmers so we can learn more about them and their products.

If you want easy ways to learn how to make small, but significant, clean eating changes in your life be sure to check out her blog, Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and Twitter. Everything is beautifully written and shot and Jessica’s sweet disposition will win you over immediately. She’s definitely one of my woman crushes today and every day.

What’s Your Word for 2016?

141h

My friend Jennifer recently wrote a post about her word for 2016. It’s ‘action.’ I love that! It prompted me to think about what word I would want to represent me in 2016. It’s RESULTS! That is what 2016 is going to be all about from finances to entrepreneurship to my day job to my health.

During Javacia’s #GoalDiggers workshop earlier this year, I really thought about what I wanted for this year and put pen to paper. My big, overall goals are to save some mega bucks and pay down my bills, get in much better shape health-wise, kick off my side gigs of technical consulting and social media training, and really expand the platform I was hired for at work. I put numbers with all those things and have created “Momentum Moves” to help me get there and have my accountability partners checking up on me!

So, my word this year will be results and I plan to have an epic blog post at the end of the year with all those results listed, along with the numbers I have projected for myself. What is your works for 2016? How are you going to get there?

What’s New for November? Me!

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out there in blogland! I’m baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-aaaaaaaaaaaaaack. First off, before I get started on anything else, I have to tell you that La-Di-Da-Di just came on the radio station I am listening to. SCORE! This takes me back to junior high and high school. I may or may not still know all the words. Shhhhhhhhhh!

Alright, back to business. November is #bloglikecrazy month for us See Jane Write gals. And seeing as how I have been sorely lacking in the writing department for months, here goes nothing.

I am grateful for Javacia’s writing prompts for each day if we’re blanking. Today’s topic is our intentions for the month. We all know how well I do with written out goals (cough), but I am hopeful! This month I would like to:

  1. Continue this writing trend
  2. Work harder on making healthier food choices
  3. Start riding Elektra again (my bicycle..I stopped during the hot weather because I would surely pass out)
  4. Spend more quality time with hubster, family, and friends (I’ve been remiss in my trips home to Montgomery)
  5. Begin cleaning out the house so I can have a massive yard sale in the spring and MINIMIZE
  6. Focus on finances and make some major changes for the new year
  7. Slow down socially. I am in desperate need of “me” time. I love my city, all my friends and their celebrations, but I’m just wearing myself down, I can tell. So HEALTH IS NUMBER ONE! My hypothyroidism levels continue to increase (not good), so I need to slow down and focus on all things good and well.

That’s it. That’s me and November. Are you doing #bloglikecrazy? If so, what are you most excited to write about?

See you tomorrow! 🙂

The Hardest Post I’ve Ever Written

Today’s 31 Days to a Better Blog challenge was to revamp the ‘About’ page of our blog. I am going to do that, but not today.

I have been struggling internally with a post for some time now, going back and forth on should I or shouldn’t I. During our #bloglikecrazy challenge in November, one of the tasks was to write a risky post. At the time I couldn’t think of anything that important to me that wasn’t already out there – I’m a pretty open person. Well, I finally figured it out. While I did write about my body issues that day, I didn’t divulge my actual weight. I know as soon as my dad reads this he’s going to call me up and talk to me 1) about my weight and b) putting it out there. He loves me to pieces but has no idea. I’m doing this for myself. If I’m seriously going to work on my weight loss goal, there has to be accountability to myself and to my readers, many of who are dear friends that help and coach me. There are about 3 people on the planet who know my weight and my doctor is one of them. Daniel is another. I’ve realized, the more I blog and put myself out there and the more I talk with other Janes about their insecurities, that it’s not nearly as big a deal as it is in my head. I actually told a friend my weight recently – she had just caught me coming from Iron Tribe and I told her one of my goals was to lose 100 pounds this year – and she balked at me both when she heard I wanted to lose 100 pounds and then at my current weight. She had no idea I weighed that much and was kind enough to tell me I carry it well. I appreciate those words more than she knows, but I still need to lose it for my health. So, in the footsteps of some incredibly inspiring friends before me – Jen West, Stephen Vinson, Jennifer Dome – I’m pledging to weigh in weekly on Wednesdays starting this week. Just to kick things off and give everyone a chance to shoot milk out of their nose, I currently weigh 287.5 lbs. There you have it, folks. I’ve lost my mind. And dad, I love you more than anything, but please don’t call me about this post. It was hard enough to write it…I don’t want to talk about it. lol! I love you.
