All I need is me and my girlfriend

Note: I’m not sure why this post didn’t publish yesterday from my iPad, but it didn’t so here it is a day late, but I’m still counting it because I wrote it YESTERDAY. lol.

Today’s #bloglikecrazy writing prompt is about celebrating friendship. Though I’m not single (and a lot of my girlfriends aren’t either), I’ve loved this song since the 90s and still feel this way today:

Growing up I got along better with guys than girls. Girls were catty, manipulative, superficial, and cliquish. Guys didn’t seem to have those hang ups, at least not that I saw. I had a few very close female friends and, thankfully, still have a few from childhood to this day. And as we got older and matured, I found out that girls became less cliquish outside of school and more open to new friends.

Since graduating, I have formed an impenetrable circle of women around me that have proven time and again they are true friends. I started with a small group in Montgomery around 1996 and we’re still tight today, including the few I grew up with during school and all my adopted moms. Once I moved to Virginia, I gathered a few more into the fold and miss them everyday. Since moving back to Alabama, that circle has grown exponentially and I’ve got the greatest group of girlfriends that one could ask for.

Every group from my history brings something different to the table and I feel well-rounded and complete with them in my life. I know exactly who to go for during certain situations and when advice is needed. These women have helped me blossom from a young, immature girl into a focused, intelligent woman who values friendship more than most things.

With that being said, thank you to all my girls who have seen me through tough times, given me a place to live, a bed to sleep on, help when I’m in trouble, support and encouragement when I have a hare-brained idea or need a shoulder, pushed me to do more outside of my comfort zone, and have given me more laughs than I can count. (I really should have six pack abs as much and as hard as I’ve laughed with them. Go figure!)

You all are a huge part of my life and world – I wouldn’t be where I am today without you. For you girls: (note: adult language)

Whoa Nellie!

It’s late again and I’m just now writing. I am truly sorry. But today I needed to decompress from the technology (for the most part) and get some things done around the house. And just spend some time with my books, magazines, mail, and myself. And that’s exactly what I did. I caught up on my reading, cleaned out the mail pile, and folded and hung up about 5 loads of clothes. I haven’t had weekends off in quite some time and tomorrow is quite busy. So today was my “me” day.

There was an EPIC ball game on tonight – Auburn vs UGA. If you missed the last minute of the game, go find it. It will be a quick search, I promise. That play is no doubt the play of the year. I love my team and they got very lucky tonight. But that was beautiful.

Have a lovely evening and we’ll pick back up with “meatier” stuff soon! Sweet dreams!

I like big butts and I cannot lie

Or rather, I have one. Ok, so today’s #bloglikecrazy post looks fun. We are to write a post celebrating a part of our body. This is a wonderful prompt from Javacia because I don’t think we do it nearly enough as women. So, hopefully today there are tons of Janes out there writing about how awesome they are. Let’s make it everyday, ladies!

Not to sound arrogant, but I have a lot of great features. We ALL do. And though it may knock things over on its own every time I turn around in a department store, I LOVE MY BIG BUTT! lol. I’m not really sure why and I *probably* shouldn’t be so proud of it since it is rather large and basically its own planet. But I’ve always had it, I’ve learned to embrace it, J Lo helped A TON growing up (“In Living Color” anyone?), and it is what it is. It fills out my pants, it cushions me when I ride my bike, and it keeps me warm. It has a ton of positives.  There are some negatives, but they don’t matter and I’m not thinking about them.

There you go – short and sweet. My bum rocks. 🙂

And just to give you even more awesomeness to think about, go read this amazing post I saw online today. I think it may be my favorite internet post ever because it hits so close to home. Thank you, Teresa. You are my new hero.

This is how we do it.

That song (by Montell Jordan) came on last night during our monthly Birmingham Girls Club social at Do It Yourself Crafts where we painted holiday ornaments to donate to a women & children’s shelter. I like to put my “Bust A Move” station on Pandora during BGC social events where we’re being creative. It’s fun to watch the gals sing along, dance in their seats, or just get up and bust a move…which happened quite a bit last night.

Today’s #bloglikecrazy post asks us to write a “How To” piece. While I’m all for teaching someone something, I’m not a fan of writing instruction pieces. I think partly because we had to do it so many times in college during Communications class and I kept getting red marks on my papers though I thought I did well. Ha! No. So after umpteen papers, I’m over it. Also, because I have to do it at work A LOT. So, here is my How To for today. I’m swiping it from someone else. Because I can. Thank you CorePHP.

Rockin’ robin (tweet, tweedle-lee-dee)

Today we start our show with a few informal interviews with our favorite Tweeps (Twitter peeps) for our #bloglikecrazy segment.

(Disclaimer: Interviews are nonexistent. I just like to write random things sometimes. If you’re just now figuring that out, welcome! We hope you enjoy your stay!)

I follow roughly 2,000 people on Twitter. Narrowing that down to 5 is almost impossible, but these are just a few that I adore.  And now, in no particular order, drumroll please!

Tweep #1 – @nerdreign. I don’t know much about this woman, but she is hilarious. I find her tweets and retweets crack me up most of the time. She’s great for a snarky pick me up or just bizarre tweets. Here’s an example.

Tweep #2 – James Spann (@spann) You will find this man at the top of a lot of Twitter lists and rightly so. He’s informative, funny, respectful, shares valuable information, and knows how to do it correctly.

Tweep #3 – Jamie Golden (@JamiesRabbits) Again, another hilarious woman, but one that I know in person which makes her tweets that much funnier. Her funny, sometimes sarcastic, tweets are interspersed with thoughtful tidbits and take aways from her work and church life. I love them all!

Tweep #4 – Tangela Ekhoff (@tangelaekhoff) A funny friend who used to live in Alabama and now lives in Oklahoma and will likely be on Scandal one day. I kid you not – follow her and you’ll see why.

Tweetp #5 – All my Birmingham Tweeps. I couldn’t pick favorites here, so will just name a few that I watch closely:

I purposely did not list any businesses even though I am a huge fan of many business Twitter accounts. But, I wanted to keep this personal and so I did.
